CORE'S ATHLETIC TRAINER HELPS HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES REACH THEIR POTENTIAL

At CORE Physical Therapy, we take pride in being involved with our local community. That’s why we’re happy to provide Fullerton High School’s sports department our athletic trainer, Marcus Heisner.

Our Work with Fullerton High School
As an athletic trainer, Marcus’ goal is to help athletes try to prevent injuries through education and preparation. When injuries do occur, he is there to offer therapy and recovery treatments to help them get back out on the field.

Throughout the week, Marcus can be found at the school and also traveling with the teams for various sports. Prior to any games or competitive events, he will do all the taping that helps the athletes prevent certain injuries. If one of the athletes gets injured, they are required to check with Marcus for injury assessments.

Concussion Protocol
The most common injuries that Marcus sees are ankle sprains, muscle strains, and other physical issues that happen often in both contact and non-contact sports. However, one of his biggest concerns is concussions. Brain trauma is not something he takes lightly. He understands that football and soccer are the two sports that tend to result in concussions and other head injuries, so he is extra vigilant when dealing with athletes and concussion protocol.

Some concussion and head trauma symptoms Marcus looks out for include:

  • Headaches

  • Whiplash/Neck Pain

  • Confusion

  • Sensitivity to Noise

  • Nausea

  • Blurred Vision

Understanding Athletes
With a degree in kinesiology from Point Loma Nazarene University, Marcus has always been an athlete and even played baseball in college. He understands the pressure and drive that young athletes experience and he enjoys helping them through that. In addition to receiving his Athletic Trainer certification, Marcus also has an EMT certification, which comes in handy when dealing with injuries that happen at Fullerton High School sporting events.
