MEND YOUR METABOLISM FOR MORE MUSCLE

“I’m really looking to boost my metabolism.” “My metabolism is so slow, I can’t lose any weight!”

Metabolism, metabolism, metabolism: It’s something you hear about all the time, but do you really know what it means? With CORE’s Fitness Challenge well underway, it’s a definition you need to be familiar with in order to lose weight. The common understanding is that a high metabolism means the body will burn more calories. This is not wrong, but there is so much more to metabolism than that!

A person’s metabolism is very complicated. It involves just about every single chemical reaction that takes place in the body and helps aid the most basic vital processes. The speed of your metabolism depends on the way you live your life. It depends on the foods you eat, the sleep you get each night, and the amount of water you drink every day. So what are some easy ways to boost your metabolism? We have a quick list here to help you out:

  • Drink, Drink, Drink! Water, that is. Upon waking up, drinking a full water bottle will get that metabolism moving! A recent German study showed that 17 ounces of water in the morning can mean 30 percent more effective metabolism throughout that day.

  • Filled with Fiber. Take that breakfast and pack it with fiber and protein. Eggs, oatmeal, and fresh fruit would be an example of a great healthy breakfast. It prevents a large spike in insulin, which will help the body lose weight. On this same note, never skip breakfast! It gets the body’s metabolism moving.

  • Morning Motion. Exercising in the morning will help burn more calories throughout the entire day. One specific study found that just 45 minutes of cardio kept the body burning calories for 14 hours afterward.

  • Total Training. Aside from just cardio, incorporate strength training in those workouts as well. Muscles are a metabolically active tissue, so more strength training means more burned calories. Plus, it will help get that heart rate up as well!

If you have any questions about your metabolism, give CORE Physical Therapy a call today! We would be happy to help you get your fitness journey started.
