PHYSICAL THERAPIST OR CHIROPRACTOR: WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE

Where do you turn for help when you have pain that was not caused by a specific incident, or pain that has lingered for much longer than it should have? Your primary physician is always a good start, while others may choose between a Physical Therapist or Chiropractor. We’ve taken the time to list some key differences that set physical therapy and chiropractic care apart. We hope this aids in making the best decision for you.

Philosophy
The philosophy of treatment behind physical therapy and chiropractic care varies greatly.

Physical Therapy promotes optimal human health and function through the application of scientific principles to prevent, examine, evaluate and intervene in order to alleviate acute or prolonged movement dysfunction through evidence-based practice.

Chiropractic treatments are based on the concept that the spine and its surrounding tissues can be realigned as a means to enhance normal human function and health.

Most patients will see benefits from both treatment types.

Areas of Treatment
Obviously, we feel that if you’re looking for the most advanced and up-to-date treatments for your ailments, whether they’re headaches, jaw pain or a persistent backache, physical therapy is the way to go.

Services
Depending on the injury, physical therapists may target one specific area of concern or address the entire body as part of a complete health and wellness program. Physical therapists are trained in joint manipulation and mobilization of the neck and spine, much like chiropractors, along with further education in soft tissue mobilization, therapeutic exercise prescription, proper diet, massage and many other approaches designed to provide the most evidence-based interventions to ensure the best possible outcomes for their patients.

Bottom Line
Physical therapists, like those at our office, will give you a personalized, comprehensive and research-based treatment program with a deep knowledge of how each intervention affects your entire body.

Our goal is to get you back to being the best possible you. We only want to see you when you need us.
