ACUPUNCTURE

Tried & True — Try It Today!

Acupuncture is among the oldest healing practices in the world. In the United States, where practitioners incorporate healing traditions from China, Japan, Korea, and other countries, acupuncture is considered part of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). Patients are treated by insertion and manipulation of needles into the skin. The practice originated in China well over 2000 years ago and continues to gain momentum in the West. It is used to treat pain, nausea, infertility, and disease and to promote general health. Acupuncture seeks to find a balance in the body’s energy, also called the Qi. To fulfill its functions, Qi has to flow steadily from the inside of the body to the skin, muscles, tendons, bones, and joints. The Qi moves throughout the body by way of channels referred to as meridians. Acupuncture points are mainly found at specified locations along the meridians where the insertion of needles can assist the Qi’s flow. “A-shi” points have no fixed location but represent tender or reflexive points appearing in the course of pain syndromes.
